Have any of you seen or read the commencement speech that Jim Carrey gave at Maharishi University of Management in 2014? It was a very heartfelt and poignant speech which focused on how you should use your talent to create happiness and to never give up on your dreams. Here a few of my favorite quotes from his 26-minute speech:


“The effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.”


“We are not the avatars we create. We are the light that shines through. All else is smoke and mirrors.”


“So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect so we never ask the universe for it. I’m living proof … ask the Universe for it … then work toward it while letting go how it will come to pass.”


With so many young minds anticipating their futures as the 2023-2024 school year comes to a close, please remember that graduating from high school is an immense achievement and a significant milestone in one's life. But It's also a time of transition, change, and uncertainty and I can see how that might be a little scary to some of you. I'm not old and wise (just yet) but I have been on the planet long enough to pass a long a few words of advice.


First, take calculated risks. Overcome your fears and try new things, even if it means making mistakes. It’s important for your personal growth. But don’t act impulsively and always consider the consequences of your actions. Make sure to go out of your way to visit new places, meet new people, and test out various hobbies. You never know when you’ll stumble across something you really love which in my case, was photography.
